New Years Resolutions!

So, I'm not a huge resolution maker.  Not until the last year or so that is.  Since I've been feeling more like myself I've begun a journey of self improvement, inside and out.  I accomplished last year's major goal and now we are on to this year's.  A little late, I know, but I like to think about these things for a while.  It makes keeping them a whole lot easier.

1) Put myself out there more.  I want to learn to put aside my fears and go for it.  There have been so many times in my life where I have kicked myself for things like not taking that job, or not keeping in touch with that friend from college.

2) Shop smarter.  Buy only pieces that a)work with pieces I already have, b) are wardrobe staples (I don't have many good basic staples) and c) are classic enough to work past the trends.

3) Get serious about skincare.  Wish someone had drilled me on good skincare earlier in my life, but better late than never, right?  Thankfully I have been fairly blessed in that area, however; at age thirty, there is definitely room for improvement.

4) Eat healthier.  For me that means continuing the "re-feeding" program I am on after years of being unable to tolerate many foods.  Sometimes I get scared of how my body will react to the new foods, but I am determined to get healthy again.

5) Enjoy life's little things.  This ties in with number one.  The last year has taught me a lot about appreciating life's simple pleasures.  This year I want to be more aware and enjoying them on purpose.

6) Get it together!  Something I am going to have to do this year, whether I like it or not.  With the hubby starting a new job, studying for his MBA and my own job search I am going to have to be more organized and efficient by default.

Well, there they are, out there for all to see!  Here's to making 2013 one really great year!

First Guest Post!

A big first for me today!  My first guest post will be appearing over on My Thirty Spot  tomorrow!  "My Thirty Spot" is a blog that celebrates being in your thirties, as the title suggests.  Erin Kennedy is doing a wonderful job over there, passing along her experience, tips and tricks and she has started the "Love for Thirty" project in which fellow bloggers tell their stories about becoming and being in their thirties.  There are a lot of really inspirational stories published, all celebrating the decade of 30; it's ups and downs, the myth that 30 is "old" and how our perspectives have changed.

If you have just turned thirty, are about to turn thirty or are interested in a blog that is geared towards you (but isn't a 'Mommy Blog'), I highly recommend that you check out Erin's blog here.  Because, when you get right down to it, being thirty is pretty awesome.  You can read my own personal story there and I am so looking forward to answering any questions that you may have.  So get over there and check it out!  Enjoy!

Hello Again!!

December was a crazy month around here.  My hubby started his MBA classes at the beginning of Dec. and with only one computer in the home it has been interesting!  Now we have two and I can get back to posting again.

The holidays were amazing this year.  Spending time with family took precedence and was especially poignant since it was the last Christmas that our family will see as we are now, since my brother and his wife are expecting the very first grandchild on my side!!  Right now the only "grand-kids" in the family are of the four-legged variety.  Two Vichla's (spelling?) and one Labrador! We took all three for a walk in the snow Christmas Eve and then on Christmas Day we took them to the local state park for a good, long and off-the-leash hike.  You have never seen three happier dogs.

This year was the first white Christmas I have seen in at least a decade.  It started snowing Christmas Eve just after everyone arrived and we woke up to a beautiful snow covered landscape Christmas morning.   One of our greatest traditions in my family is Christmas breakfast.  In fact we usually only have two meals on Christmas Day; breakfast and dinner.  The actual meal varies from year to year.  Traditionally it is sausage gravy, biscuits and eggs, other years we sub-out the biscuits for pancakes, but most often it is what everyone is in the mood for.  This year we had eggs scrambled with leftover ham and green peppers with cinnamon sticky buns.  Because of the timing of the holiday this year we had our big holiday meal on Christmas eve this year, since most of us had to work the day after Christmas.  Ham baked with pineapples and maraschino cherries, mashed whole potatoes and salad.  Of course there was pie; pumpkin, apple and pecan.  And egg-nogg...lots of egg-nogg.  There were Christmas cookies too!!  My mother's mother is famous for her christmas cookies.  As in: all out battles have been fought over the last remaining cookie of a certain variety. The Rum-balls are to die for and I will one day get that particular recipe....even if I have to beg!

Now we are into 2013.  The Mayan apocalypse didn't happen, the fiscal cliff has temporarily averted and all is beginning to move forward.  Yours truly is attacking this new year with vigor.  I will be having an interview next week and after consulting with family and friends I decided it was time for a new look.  So, two days ago I took the plunge and got a bob hair cut.  My hair wasn't super-long to begin with, but the ends were dry and damaged from some old highlights.  The new look is great!  The best part is that it is so easy to care for on a daily basis.  I have to get some pictures of it, after I clean out the holiday pictures from my camera......something I am procrastinating on, for no real reason.  Sounds like a good resolution for me to work on this year, right!?

There is much more to come, so stay tuned!!
